Action against Infectious deseases
AAR JAPAN has been supporting people who suffer from mines and refugee problems in various countries and territories where there are many who have contracted HIV/AIDS, malaria and other infectious diseases. Thus, currently AAR JAPAN regards action against such infectious diseases one of its top priorities and provides support to Zambia and Sudan.
Action against HIV/AIDS in Zambia
These children were soon able to do so due to AAR JAPAN’s assistance.

AAR JAPAN conducts HIV/AIDS-related operations in Lusaka, the capital of Zambia, and its suburbs, where people have been seriously affected by the disease. More than 850,000 children, or one out of six of all children in the nation lost their parents due to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. There is still no end to children who lost their breadwinners and cannot afford to attend school.

AAR JAPAN provides children who cannot go to school with assistance to school attendance. Furthermore, we support those who bring up children so that they can secure incomes for school expenses in order for their children to continue attending school.

In addition, AAR JAPAN carries out activities to spread appropriate knowledge on HIV/AIDS and prevent infection, improve home-visit nursing, and build and maintain facilities for testing and counseling. The local high school students and HIV-positive persons actively participate in the prevention of the disease and take part in home-visit nursing. As a whole, these activities are becoming established in local communities.

Action against Infectious Diseases in Sudan
Participants in training of hygiene education in the southern Sudan.

The civil war ran for more than 20 years and finally came to end in Sudan. Infrastructure such as electricity and water services are not yet in functioning. The people cook and wash their bodies in the unsanitary water of rivers, and as a result, they catch diseases from one after another.

AAR JAPAN built wells and water towers to provide clean water in southern Sudan, and spread basic hygiene knowledge such as boiling water for cooking and washing hands before meals.

We also distributed mosquito nets to households and taught people how to prevent the spread of malaria, so that mothers and infants cannot be infected by it.
