History


1979 Organization established as the Association to Aid the Indochinese Refugees (Renamed the Association to Aid Refugees in 1984, and the Association for Aid and Relief, Japan in 1999)
1991 Started relief activities to the former Yugoslavia
1996 Published "Not Mines But Flowers", a picture book for AAR's Anti-personnel Landmine Campaign
1997 Participated in the signing ceremony of the 'Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti-Personnel Mines and on their Destruction(Mine Ban
Treaty)'.
Awarded Nobel Peace Prize as a member organization of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines(ICBL)
Organized "NGO Tokyo Conference 1997 on Anti-Personnel Landmines".
1998 Obtained Special Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council(ECOSOC)
1999 Awarded "Yomiuri International Cooperation Prize"
2000 Obtained Non Profit Organization corporate status in Japan
2001 Started relief activities in Afghanistan
2004 Started activities in Angola
Started relief activities in Sri Lanka
Held the International Conference of NGOs on Small Arms in TOKYO
2005 Started relief activities in Sudan
Started relief activities in Pakistan
2006 Handed over activities in Sri Lanka to a local NGO
Started relief activities in Lebanon
2007 Finished activities in Lebanon
Handed over activities in Angola to local NGOs
